Valour
Bravery
A virtue
Showing up
Not being afraid
A personal virtue
The breath of life
Swimming upstream
Mastering our fear
Not being fearless
Grace under pressure
An admirable quality
A strong man’s creed
An emotional strength
Not being discouraged
Taking that scary leap
More than a daring deed
The opposite of cowardice
Going where there is no path
Taking both action and risks
A sort of endurance of the soul
Remarkable, unfathomable bravery
Acting despite risk or challenge
Wandering down unfamiliar trails
Not a thing that can come and go
Facing rather than avoiding fears
Sailing away from the safe harbor
Taking action in the face of fear
Part of us when we have work to do
Part of us when our skies are blue
Saying no when we know we need to
A slow, unwavering, ingrained trait
A universal core character strength
What it takes to stand up and speak
Bearing defeat without losing heart
What it takes to sit down and listen
Acting on convictions even if unpopular
Being able to confront frightening things
Facing our challenges, threats, or difficulties
The greatest quality of the mind next to honour
Doing the thing we fear and keeping on doing it
Not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it
Knowing when the path we are on isn't the one for us
Having honest communication with ourselves and others
Not just a rigid control of fear, nor a denial of fear
Speaking up for what is right even if there is opposition
Not shrinking from threat, challenge, difficulty, or pain
Being able to overcome our apprehensions and fears to act courageously
Valuing a goal or conviction and acting upon it, whether popular or not
Bravery in the face of physical pain, hardship, death or threat of death
Saying no to the wrong things so that we can say yes to the right things
The quiet voice at the end of the day, saying, I will try again tomorrow
Having or showing mental or moral strength to face danger, fear, or difficulty
A quality of spirit that enables us to face danger or pain without showing fear
Acting, helping others, or upholding a higher purpose, despite the consequences
The opposite of actively avoiding something because it is difficult or unpleasant
Facing threats, challenges, difficulties, and pains, despite any doubts and fears
The exercise of will to accomplish goals in the face of external or internal opposition
Not the absence of feelings of fear, but the willingness to go forward in spite of them
The extent to which we are even prepared to risk our life to save another person’s life
Putting ourselves out there, even if "out there" is pushing past our own mental barriers
The choice and willingness to confront agony, pain, danger, uncertainty, or intimidation
Deliberate choice in the face of painful or fearful circumstances for the sake of a worthy goal
Saying what we believe in, out loud, to the people who need to hear it, even if that person is us
Being willing to remain at our post and to defend ourselves against the enemy without running away
Continuing to press on, even when our stomach drops in fear, our hands shake in nerves, and we collect sweat
Insistence on doing the right thing even in the face of certain defeat without promise of reward or salvation
The ability to act rightly in the face of popular opposition, shame, scandal, discouragement, or personal loss
Quitting when we know we're on the wrong track, even if hundreds of thousands of people are headed in one direction
Our capability to protect, stand up for and support others even when there might be negative consequences for doing so
Having the clearest vision of what is before us, glory and danger alike, and yet notwithstanding, going out to meet it
Our awareness of moral issues combined with the ability to act according to our own values despite pressure to do otherwise
Ability to act for a meaningful (noble, good, or practical) cause, despite experiencing the fear associated with perceived threat exceeding the available resources
Judging a situation, accepting the emotion as part of human nature and, using well-developed habits to confront the fear and allow reason to guide our behaviour toward a worthwhile goal
A willful, intentional act, executed after mindful deliberation, involving objective substantial risk to the actor, primarily motivated to bring about a noble good or worthy end, despite, perhaps, the presence of the emotion of fear
