Abandoning every defiling habit and appetite

The only way to prevent ruin of body and mind

Refraining from indulging an appetite or desire

Restraining from indulging in something harmful

The best remedy for those diseases arising from gluttony

Total avoidance of every injurious or debasing indulgence

Much more pleasant to contemplate upon the other side of indulgence

A window of clarity through which we can better find our work or our mate

A total forbearance, as in fasting, or a forbearance of the usual quantity
